We continue the fight! Everyone on the 24-hour strike on 27/5!
Colleagues with our struggle we have already achieved the first victories, but the company continues in its usual way to increase its profits.
It proceeds with downsizing, very high targets that are not reached, daily layoffs, forcing colleagues to resign due to the high intensification. At the same time, for most of us, the salary we receive is not even half a month and all this is done to pocket more profits.
While the company is doing everything to delay the negotiation of a collective agreement, puts a wall to our fair demands, wants to limit our action, tries to have us isolated, not to discuss, not to fight, we show them that they cannot achieve this! We now have our union, we are organized and we are not going to let any boss shut us up.
We respond to all of this with 24hour strike on May 27, as decided at the General Assembly of the union.
To the pressure and the attempt of intimidation by Teleperformance, we respond with a stronger Teleperformance Workers Union! We are all helping to bring in hundreds of new members in the coming days! We support the union’s actions, the massive tours of the union in all buildings, the union’s meetings with all departments (a detailed schedule will be announced on the union’s website).
We demand a Collective Labour Agreement with 20% increase for all directly, absorption of all colleagues in time in another department, no one remains unpaid, unemployed!
We are united, no one is alone! Together we strengthen our struggle!
Our demands are just, we will achieve them, we will win!Instructions for the strike on the 27th of May

STRIKE on May 1st
The Union of Private Sector Employees in Chania calls for participation to the strike demonstration organized by worker’s unions on Wednesday, May 1st, at 10:00 a.m. on Old Town’s Market Square.
May Day is not a public holiday, it is a strike!
130 years after the Athens May Day demonstrations and the struggle for the 8-hour work day, we are faced with the EU’s full frontal assault on our labour rights, faithfully followed by the current ND government and all previous bourgeois governments.
Their aim is to abolish the 8-hour work day, to make working out of schedule the norm, to introduce 13-hour, 6-day and 7-day work weeks, to criminalise our struggles demanding for better working and living conditions. They are passing laws and directives that have found and find the support of the employer-run company unons who serve big capital interests and the policies of the bourgeois parties.
From Chicago in 1886 to the Athens May Day of 1894, from May 1936 in Thessaloniki to the May Day of 1944 with the heroic sacrifice of 200 communists in Caesariani, the working class has inscribed with indelible ink of its blood the most brilliant pages of class struggle, of organised struggle and demands, which no state and employer’s intimidation or repression can stop.
The workers show their strength by organizing and fighting!
After the hugely succesfull strike on 28 February and 17 April we sent a message that our lifes are more important than capitalist profit!
We are already experiencing the consequences of the intensification of the imperialist wars and conflicts in Ukraine and the Middle East with deeper and deeper involvement of our country for the benefit of the shipowners, industrialists, businessmen and their interests in the region.
Whilst inflation and successive increases in food, energy and rent prices are literally squeezing our income, with wages being enough for a maximum of 15 days’ wages, the big business groups in all sectors – including food and supermarket companies – are increasing their profitability.
At the same time, they are trying to put into practice the policy of commercialisation and privatisation of health care and to abolish equal access for patients to health services by implementing the Joint Ministerial Decision on the paid operation of evening surgeries.
In other words, those who can afford to ‘buy’ their health care survive, while those who cannot will die waiting for their turn.
At the same time, the government of the Nea Dimokratia starts the process of implementing the anti-worker law of ministers Vroutsis-Ahtsioglou, which removed from the unions the rights of signing a National General Collective Labour Agreement – the minimum wage is now determined by the government based on the “strength” of the Greek economy.
Based on this, the government of Nea Dimokratia announced its decision to keep the nominal minimum gross wage pegged at €830, down 26.77% from the 2010 wage, imposing by force on the majority of workers to live on €706 net per month.
This policy is the reason why masses of workers are taking to the streets and fighting for their modern needs.
May Day is the beacon of the continuous class struggle. The attempt of the Nea Dimokratia government to abolish the May Day strike, based on a law of Syriza, and turn it into a public holiday will not pass.
Our struggles must continue and grow stronger. We fight for:
- Better working and living conditions, for collective bargaining with wage increases and extension of rights.
- The immediate abolition of the anti-worker laws that smash the 8-hour working day and criminalise trade union activity, prohibiting the right to strike. We fight for 7-hour – 5-hour – 35-hour work work weeks as the development of science and technology allow.
- Immediate measures against inflation.
- Direct measures for the health and safety of workers at work.
- Disengagement from imperialist planning and war conflicts.
- Solidarity with the people of Palestine in their just and hard struggle against the murdering state of Israel, which is slaughtering them with support from NATO and the EU.
Justice is on our side. We will win!

Union’s Call to the April 17 Strike
STRIKE on 17th of April
The Private Sector Emploee Union of Chania invites workers to the strike demonstration organized by the worker’s unions, on Wednesday 17 April in the Chania Old Market square AT 10:00 am
The strike on 28 February was one of the largest in recent years. It united the struggle of workers, farmers, students and self-employed workers in a large nationwide front against government policies and corporate interests, and the EU. It expressed the overall indignation that exists in our households, but also the anger at the attempt to cover up the responsibilities of all the bourgeois parties, ND, SYRIZA, PASOK for the crime in Tempi.
The Nea Dimokratia government, taking advantage of laws signed by ministers Vroutsis and Ahtsioglou as part of Greece’s bailout agreements, announced for another year its unacceptable political decision to keep the minimum nominal gross wage fixed at 830 €, this way imposing on the majority of workers to live on 706 € net per month.
The average real gross wage of all workers was €1,038.23 in February 2023, when in the corresponding month of 2010 the average real gross wage of all workers was €1,417.84, a decrease of 26.77% (EFKA data). Notably, nothing will change in the lives of 67% of the workforce who are already paid a nominal gross wage equal to or above the new minimum wage (ERGANI data). These workers will not see any increase in their wages or any of their benefits.
It also keeps seniority bonus rights frozen for the vast majority of workers, stealing the seniority they worked in 2012- 2023. So a worker who entered production in 2012 will get their first three-years in 2027. Instead of the government giving him an increase of €249 today for the three three-year increments that were stolen from workers, which are now accrued over a twelve-year period, the new laws give workers an increase of €83 and even that in 2027!
At the same time 50% of the recruitments made in recent years are part-time or under other forms of flexible employment while at the same time with the miserable law of the ND’s minister Hatzidakis, employees work up to 10 hours a week unpaid overtime.
Through organisation and collective struggles, workers can show their strength!
We call for collective agreements NOW – Increases in wages – Abolish the law Vroutsis-Akhtsioglou
Colleagues,
At a time when inflation and the successive increases in food, energy and rents are literally crushing our income, with the salary lasting for 15 days at most, big business in all sectors -including food and supermarket companies- are increasing their profitability.
NO MORE WAITING – WE’RE STRIKING
In the face of the profits of the big corporations contributing to the economy’s “resilience” of the economy, we are confronting their profits with our needs by demanding measures against inflation, collective bargaining agreements and wage increases.
OUR NEEDS CAN NOT WAIT – AGAINST THE WAR THAT THE GOVERNMENT AND CORPORATE INTERESTS HAVE DECLARED AGAINST US, WE RESPOND IMMEDIATELY!
We fight for:
- Substantial wage increases. Repeal of the anti-labour laws and restoration of collective bargaining in the unions. Restoration of the favourability principle and per three-year seniority bonuses in contracts incorporating the period 2012 – 2023.
- Minimum wage of 900 euros.
- Unemployment benefit at 80% of the minimum wage for everyne unemployed.
- Fixed work with rights, 7 hours – 5 work days – 35 hours per week. No tolerance for inhumane working hours, flexible forms of employment and unpaid overtime.
- Abolition of indirect taxes and imposition of a cap on the prices of energy, food, baby and consumer goods.
- A tax-free threshold of €12,000 plus €3,000 for each child. Abolition of taxable presumptive minimum income.
- Abolition of ENFIA for worker and low income households.
- Health and safety measures in the workplace.
- Increased state funding to meet the needs of health, education, welfare and all critical sectors, such as civil protection. Take fire protection measures now!
- Stop auctions of family homes right now. Rent subsidies by broadening the inclusion criteria and increasing the subsidy
- No involvement of Greece in unjust wars.
Justice is on our side. We will win!

We stand united: Teleperformance’s intimidation won’t pass!
The Union of Private Sector Employees in Chania denounces intimidation attempts towards our union’s board and union members by Teleperformance’s management in Chania.
For long now there have been attempts to drive unionization efforts out the Teleperformance’s site. In clear violation of workers’ rights under laws protecting freedom to unionize, the company has been confiscating union flyers from workers as well as and elected union board members.
This behaviour of the company was also denounced at the labour inspection authority where a tripartite meeting was held between workers, the union and a company a representative after several reports were filed to the authority from workers. The issued decision recognized the rights of the workers and condemned the company’s behavior. The representative of the company had also stated that they would not interfere with the union’s action.
The highlight of Teleperformance’s intimidation was managers calling the police on elected union members today, claiming that the union’s presence there is ‘illegal’, when in fact this is not the case.
In contact with Teleperformance representatives through SETIP, the call center worker’s union in Athens, we were informed that the company stated that the aforementioned incident was a “mistake”. It’s time for the company to finally make some admissions. Are all these actions indeed mistakes, or are they actually so afraid of workers struggling together for humane working conditions?
They will find us right in front of them at every hurdle or excuse they put up. We call on all workers to join the union as we continue to escalate collective struggles. Calling for participation in the 24h strike on April 17 and the labour day strike on May 1st!

Union Announcement in solidarity with the Feb. 19 Stike
The 24h strike announced in the general assembly of the Union of Private Sector Employees of Chania for Teleperformance is progressing with high participation,
Worker’s unions are standing with workers, supporting their just struggle with a resolution passed by unions noting “We won’t let a minute go to waste, let’s all join in the struggle for dignity and the life we deserve”.Since early the morning a delegation of the Union was at the gate of the company’s premises, led by the President of the Union and member of the Chania Labour Unions Organization board, Mariantzela Halakatevaki, all together making a call for participation in the nationwide strike on 28/2. The president referred to the workers’ just struggle noting that “The indignation that exists in your workplace, as in all workplaces, can be transformed into action and struggle for demanding our rights.” A step in this direction will be the strike on the 28th February, so the working class of Chania can express its opposition to the policies implemented by the governments, but also to demand better wages, collective agreements and substantial measures against inflation.
Workers are encouraged to participate in the discussion that will take place on Wednesday the 21st of February, where SETIP’s president will be there to discuss updates on the negotiations process and upcoming union actions.
